아찔한 여섯 현(絃)의 연주Six play - George Benson

우연히 플레이리스트 구석에서 찾은 George Benson의 Six play.

집에서 맥주 한 잔 하면서 은은한 조명에서 들으면 같이 녹아드는 노래.

아슬아슬한 가사와 농염한 기타연주. 스피커로 들어도 좋지만 이어폰으로 들으면 더욱 좋은,

새벽의 조용한 술집에서 흘러나온다면, 집에 가려던 발걸음을 돌리게 끔 만드는 노래다.

 

오늘 소개곡은 벤슨의

2003년에 발표된 Irreplaceabe에 수록된 메인곡, Six play.

사실 벤슨은 기타연주를 타고난 신동이며, 정통 재즈 기타리스트다.

하지만 벤슨은 재즈 뿐 아니라, 팝 R&B 등, 다양한 분야에 관심이 많았고, 결국 보컬로서도의 성공을 거두게 된다.

이 중에 대중성을 얻기 위해 재즈를 저버렸다는 둥의 비판이 있었지만, 그 와중에도 명곡과 명연주는 계속해 탄생한다.

하지만, 거를 타선이 없는 명곡과 명연주들로 가득 차 있는 앨범이다.

가사가 어후~ 섹시해, 사실 기타연주를 빗대어, 끈적한 밤을 보내는 내용이라고 할 수 있다.

 

조지밴슨도 환갑에 이런 앨범을 내고, KFC 할아버지도 일흔에 진가를 알아봐주는 사람이 나타 났다.

만약 조지밴슨이 새로운 시도를 하려 했을 때,

비판에 움추려 정통재즈만 고집했다면 이런 명곡들은 탄생하지 못했을 것이다.

결국, 새로운 도전을 하지 않으면 변화는 아무것도 일어나지 않아!
